The container throughput of China ports for the period January – April 2022 has slightly increased by 1.7% compared to the same period last year, reaching 91 million TEU.

At the same time, from January to April of 2022, the cargo volume of Chinese ports was 4905 million tons, which translates to an even smaller year-on-year increase of 0.2%.

According to China’s Ministry of Transport data, the port of Shanghai remains the busiest box port in China, and in the world, with its container throughput for the first four months of the year climbing to 15.35 million TEU. Ningbo&Zhoushan and Shenzhen ports follow with 10.94 million TEU and 9.1 million TEU respectively.

The three ports with double-digit increases were Beibu Gulf, Dalian and Rizao achieving 15%, 12.8% and 12.2% respectively. On the other hand, the only ports that saw their container volumes fall were Yinkou (-24%), Shenzhen (-4.9%) and Guanzhou (-1.6%).
