For this month’s Alfa member interview, we talked to Sewwandi Dissanayake from Sri Lanka. We discussed the challenging yet rewarding nature of the industry, why her job means so much to her and how her company always offers a personalized service to customers.

 

How did you get started in the logistics industry and what has your journey been like so far?

I started my career 18 years back in shipping (apparel sector) field and gradually moved to freight and logistics. I have had the privilege of working under industry giants such as DHL, Famous Pacific Shipping, Skynet Worldwide Express and other global service providers throughout my career. Today I am honored to serve as Director for my current company, which is truly a Sri Lankan based growing logistics company.

Which life lesson has working in logistics taught you?

This industry is a place where challenges are involved and solutions are shaped. Being in the industry for past 18 years The best thing I learned is to be patient and to make quick decisions under pressure.

What do you like most about the industry and your job in particular?

I get up every morning and go to my dream job where I get to hang out with amazing people and do what I love. Being in the industry for so many years, it is very connected to my life, which is a more challenging and inspiring journey because of it.

What do you like the most about being a member of our logistics network?

I am really honored to be a member of this great network, growth is unlimited when you have the right strength worldwide.

How do you set yourself apart from your competitors?

Our personalized service – We offer personalized service to every customer for their logistics needs. We undertake not only their shipment but their logistics burden too.

If there is one thing that you could change to the logistics industry, what would it be and why?

I would encourage use of eco-friendly materials and recycling programs which can reduce wastage and encourage a minor environmental footprint.

How do you relax in your free time?

My main thing is travelling, where I can be relaxed and feel refreshed despite a busy schedule. And I love reading too.
